We all have days when we think if we get any more bad news, then we will move to Alaska..or wherever is your place of choice. I had one of those this past week. I have been thinking of Dr Kubler Ross a lot and her “stages” which we now realize are experiences during death and dying. Being a little numb is helpful!
There is so much stress in our world that is being created because of the international, national, and local tensions. History repeats itself and you would think we would learn from it. As a Christian, I keep thinking of the saints of the Catholic Church who spoke for the rights of others and were silenced or the powers that be thought they were. Oscar Romero speaks louder today than he ever did when he was alive. The nuns and laywoman martyred in El Salvador. The Coptic martyrs in Libya.
They spoke the Gospel of Jesus and lived it. They did not wear their Christianity on their sleeve; they lived the message of Jesus. Love your enemy, turn the other cheek, Matthew 25, forgive 70 times seven, the dignity of each human person, and the list continues. In my opinion, this is the remedy for all the stress of the world. It is in Christ, for us believers, which will we find the solace and comfort we seek. In Him, we will find the strength to go on even when life overwhelms us.
Even though I would love to move to Alaska because of its natural beauty, my life is here. God is in our midst and will never leave us alone.
